UNSCOP: Its history and purpose

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

In order to assure a better debate and communication between our delegates, we would like to give you some information about this committee.

The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine was formed in 1947. The Government of Great Britain advised the General Assembly to create a special committee to prepare a report, so the UNSCOP was formed.

Its purpose was to make recommendations for the future government of Palestine, as well as to investigate the cause of the conflict in there and find a solution if possible.

The organization visited Palestine and gathered testimony from Zionists organizations*.

We recommend to delegates to take the above information into account in the Model days so objectiveness and truth is achieved, and historical factors are respected, as this committee is located in 1947 as it was mentioned above.

Hoping this information will be useful for the debate´s development,

The Chair

* Zionism is the national revival movement of the Jewish people. It says that the Jews have the right to self determine in their own national home and the right to develop their culture.
