Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISC)
On behalf of MEXMUN 2009 staff, please receive our greetings and the warmest
welcome to this simulation and to the Disarmament and International Security
Committee (DISC). We thank you for choosing this committee and specially for
being part of the XIX edition of the Mexico Model United Nations Conference. We
are deeply glad to host for you once more and we hope that your stay is pleasant
and successful for your personal growth.
In this occasion DISC will discuss two topics of great relevance to the
international agenda. Reduction of military budgets is an issue that matters to
all delegations in the context of a financial crisis and latent threats to
international security. Small Arms and Light Weapons Traffic has the objective
of analyzing this issue and finding a solution to this situation that affects
one of the most unfortunate regions in the world: Africa.
Finally the chair reminds you that as part of a multilateral forum, you must
work hard in order to achieve international cooperation that benefits all
States. The chair hopes for a high level debate in order to accomplish all of
the objectives of the committee and to find the best solutions for these issues.
Remember that only through union, respect and tolerance can we reach success.
Once more, we wish you luck and we ask you to give the best of yourselves to
worthly represent your delegations and the ideals of youth. Welcome to MEXMUN
